Five ways to save energy in the winter

For Germany and the rest of Europe, the winter of 2022 will be a tough one. Energy and related rental costs are increasing dramatically due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the EU’s reduced energy dependence on Russia. Many worry about not being able to pay their monthly bills. While Germany is planning everything to protect the most vulnerable like low-income earners and retirees from inflation, rising costs, and the current reality of war.

However, I believe there are plenty of ways to save energy in winter while staying warm and avoiding expensive energy bills.

The basic heating system responsible to keep you warm in winter can cost you some extra money this winter due to high energy prices. Of course, replacing the primary heating system is not an option here. So let’s consider a few options that enable us to save energy in winter.

  • Ventilating the room

The first thing is “Lüften” (ventilation). Ventilating your living space allows you to save some energy. Although doing it right makes the key difference. Avoid constantly tilted windows for long periods of time as it drastically increases energy consumption and heating costs. It is much better to do shock ventilation (ventilation for a small period).
